How to make a beet smoothie
Step 1: Start with simple ingredients
Beets, frozen cherries & bananas, lime juice, dates and chia seeds – plus your milk of choice are all you need for this Cherry Lime Beet Smoothie!
Can you use raw beets in a smoothie? To prepare beets for this smoothie, I like to cook them first to create a silkier smoothie texture. I usually roast beets using this method. You can also buy pre-cooked beets at the grocery store which is helpful for quick preparation.
Can you use frozen beets in a smoothie? Frozen beets can be used in smoothies too. You can usually find frozen raw beets in the grocery store freezer section or freeze them yourself in large batches – raw or cooked.
Step 2: Blend all ingredients except the chia seeds.
You’ll mix the chia seeds in after blending.
Sweetened with natural dates, this brightly colored smoothie incorporates sweet cherries and red beets to fulfill a serving of fruits and vegetables. Chia seeds are mixed in to load up on this smoothie's antioxidant punch!
- 1 cup cashew milk or any nut milk
- 1 cup frozen sweet cherries
- 1 small frozen banana
- 1/2 cup cooked red beets, chopped (you can use raw beets- SEE NOTES*)
- 2 small dates
- 1/2 lime, juiced (lemon will also work)
- 1 Tbs chia seeds
-
Place all ingredients - except chia seeds - into a blender.
-
Blend until smooth.
-
Add chia seeds. Give the blender a quick pulse to incorporate them.
-
Serve.
*You can use raw beets for this smoothie. However, the texture will not be as smooth.
