The 11 km Fira to Oia Hike is fabulous way to spend time soaking in the beauty of Santorini. In June, the hot Mediterranean sun demands that you start early, which is sometimes tough when you’re on vacation!
Hiking from Fira to Oia
Since we were staying in Oia, we hiked from Oia to Fira. Obviously you can do this in either direction. In Oia, the hike begins just at the end of town and is well marked.
Since I was accompanied by a very pregnant sister and a 70+ year old mom, we hiked from Oia to Imerovigli. This is probably the best part of the hike anyways.
The trail is very easy to follow, just bring lots of water and snacks. Santorini Dave has a very useful map for this hike.
You’ll pass landmarks along the way for some great photo opportunities.
If you’re lucky, the snack shack, located about half way along the hike from Oia to Fira will be open for business. We enjoyed fresh squeezed lemonade and cake!
Not only will you find beautiful views along this hike, you will find a couple churches along the way to stop and rest.
When we arrived in Imerovigli, we were of course STARVING! I recommend choosing a restaurant beforehand so you aren’t hangry! We chose Avocado based on TripAdvisor reviews and enjoyed it very much.
Then we took the bus back to Oia. It was about a 40-minute ride and it was packed. I stood the entire time. Catch the bus all the way down the hill from the main bus stop in town. It’s kind of confusing – a bunch of us were waiting at the stop in town. The bus came and the bus attendant told us where to go to get on in the correct direction!
