Can you blend apples for a smoothie?

Sometimes it’s easy to overlook apples for a smoothie, but they are perfectly sweet and delicious. Especially in the fall when you want everything to taste of cinnamon and spice, but maybe not have so many calories as a slice of pie.

Apples can be one of the healthiest fruits to put in smoothies because they are full of fiber, vitamin C, have lots of phytonutrients, and contain flavonoids – an anti-oxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.

Since apples are easy to store for long periods of time, you most likely always have one available for smoothie making.

Love apple cider? Try this option for an apple oat breakfast smoothie. It takes full advantage of fall with the addition of fresh apple cider and brewed chai tea.

How to make an Apple Pie Smoothie

This smoothie really does taste like apple pie! It’s dairy free and sugar free. All the sweetness comes from Honeycrisp apples and banana.

If your apples lack sweetness or flavor, you can swirl in a bit of date syrup and it will deliver that extra sweetness perfectly.

Step 1: Blend everything together except the ice.

Step 2: Add ice and blend again. The ice thins the smoothie out for easy sipping with a straw and makes the smoothie cold and refreshing.

Packed with nutrition, the health benefits of this Apple Smoothie include:

  • Almond butter – to deliver plant based protein
  • Apple – with the skin on adds both soluble and insoluble fiber, vitamin C and antioxidant flavonids that are essential for brain health
  • Banana – full of B6 vitamins, vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, + fiber
  • Flax seeds – giving an Omega-3 fatty acid boost, also essential for brain health

These ingredients are ways you can easily boost the healthy benefit of your smoothie. The health benefits of apples stand out in this smoothie!
